Tips on Grips:
Good Scores Start With A Good Grip

How do I know which grip I should use? When should I replace my grips? Can fresh grips really improve my game? These are the most frequently asked questions regarding grips.

Golfers of all skill levels can benefit from the proper grip. Finding and using the right grip is just as important as the correct shaft and clubhead. To start, you should be measured for the correct hand size. Ball striking and shot pattern are influenced by grip size. A grip that provides moisture control is another factor to be considered.

Materials and construction are also an influence regarding the amount of vibration transferred to your hands from ball contact, or shot feedback. Softer grips absorb more vibrations, while firm grips provide greater shot feedback.

How often should your replace your grips and do fresh grips really improve your game? Rule of thumb, golfers should replace their grips after 40-50 rounds. There are various factors involved; ultraviolet light, ozone from the atmosphere, dirt, oil, and perspiration from the skin can all affect how your grips wear. By themselves, fresh grips can only allow you to approach your potential as a golfer. They cannot overcome a bad swing or poor alignment, but a national survey of golfers showed that 66 percent of those who had clubs regripped showed an average drop of three or four strokes per round.

There are a lot of great grip companies out there - Golf Pride, WINN, and Lampkin. All provide several grip styles, designs, and sizes to meet the needs of any golfer. Consult your local qualified professional clubfitter to ensure you choose the right grip for your game.
