Golf Clubmakers Association Names Dana Wong First
Canadian to be Awarded International Clubmaker of the Year
November 9, 2004 - Dana Wong, owner of The Village Golf Shop in New Minas, Nova Scotia, Canada, was recently named 2004-2005 International Clubmaker of the Year by the Golf Clubmakers Association (GCA).
The GCA received hundreds of nominations from around the world for the prestigious clubmaking award. A panel of several company officials and other golf making experts reviewed all the applications and selected winners from each state (U.S.), province (Canada) and country (Europe). Regional finalists were then selected from northern, southern, eastern and western sections of the United States as well as Canada. Europe and an international venue to cover all other applicants. Wong claimed both Nova Scotia Clubmaker of the Year and Canadian Regional Clubmaker of the Year honors en route to his overall victory.
"The GCA Clubmaker of the Year award acknowledges the best clubmaker in the business and is one of the clubmaking industry's highest honors," said Golfsmith Vice President Ken Brugh, who served on the panel of judges. "This award recognized Mr. Wong's ability, integrity and professionalism."
The veteran clubmaker is the first Canadian to earn this award since its inception in 1996.
Wong and the other award winners were honored during the GCA's International Conference held Oct., 7-11, 2004 in Austin, Texas.
The Golf Clubmakers Association was founded in 1980 by Golfsmith International, Inc. It is the most established and largest organization promoting the craft of clubmaking.
